Short Film Progress Check Part 21

This week was the start of a new term and my group and I decided to work on updating characters and assets to make moments in the film read better. When it comes to props, we're making the control panels and robotic arms more readable and cohesive. We're also making props in the room, like the clipboard, which interact with the characters and help move the plot along. As for the characters, we're making them more detailed and usable, with clothes, hair, etc.

My job for this week was character sculpting. I started off with the character, testing out stylization and details for out character.

First I changed the size of the mouth and the nose with small changes or our sculpt.

After the minor changes, I experimented with the style and bigger changes to blend it in with the alien style. However, this made the character look alien-like in the way we didn't want and we decided to go in a different direction.

We decided to ask one of the other teams members for help on our character, to get the right shapes and geometry for rigging. After that, I switched to the alien and started working on details of the crest and the face. I tried to make the face more like our original concept, however we liked the simplicity and cuteness of our previous face, so we decided to define it better (the eyelids, the mouth edge, and blending the crest better with the head).

We plan on working on finishing the characters and some props so we can start texturing and animating with updated characters and models. Till next time!
