Short Film Progress Check Part 17

Updated: Nov 5, 2023

This week we started shot production on our main set, the bathroom. We divvied up shots to set up specific lighting and camera angles for sequences we plan to do and started to lay them out in maya and light them in nuke. While this was going on, we got some of our other environments into unreal and fixed them up if there were problems. One of my other group members did a test animation of a walk cycle and rig to help me with refining the painted weights.

I personally focused on shot F-045 and fixing the rig for the alien for future shot production.

We have a basic lighting set up for the bathroom in normal mode and red mode in unreal, but I will be going in to set up stand in lights for the ceiling turret gun and where it's aiming for realism and so we know for possible future sims. With the rig, I had a lot of trouble manually painting the weights, the biggest problem being the hips blending into the legs and the arms blending into the torso. However, I used a technique that I was instructed about in the painted weights menu set and it helped a lot. I still have to correct some bending problems with the elbows and having advanced skeleton recognize the toes, but overall the motions are in a better place and will be even better by the time they're needed for shots.

We're going to continue with shots and sequences next week, getting as much as we can of our animatic into 3D. Until next time and thank you for reading!
