Week 2 Day 3

Today I was focused on finishing up a rough draft of the opening image. Using the sketch I created last work day, I colored and added details. It took me a bit longer because, although stylized and not realistic, I wanted the metal to be recognized as gold, which is something I learned during the process with the layer style settings. I also experimented a lot with the concept of the reflection, playing around with the imagery and depth. I was originally going to take the colors from the original room and make them plain neon, but when I did that it didn't look right. That is when I looked up different references we had collected and tried using gradients and blending which yielded a much better result. I discussed with my group and they helped with the idea of adding sound wave distortion to show that the bell was ringing. I changed the position of the rope or chain hanging off of the belt and added the distortion to the reflection which helped with the effect. Getting the effect on the bell was the most challenging part, adding warping, distortion, a slight white glow on the outside rim, and blurring and smudging the image helped the process, but it was very difficult to figure out what would work and what didn't. In the end, for a rough draft, I think it turned out very well.
